Let's Forget Day 3

Seriously though, Wednesday was rough. I read a ton about withdrawals when I started (I thought I had prepared myself, but who was I kidding) and I am pretty sure I hit all the symptoms on Wednesday.

  1. Moody- I seriously suffered the biggest crank-attack at around 10 am and the worst part was I knew why I was cranky and that it was uncalled for, but there was no way of stopping me. Like every time I am PMSing, I took it out on those closest (easy targets), so apologies to my husband, friends and dogs.
  2. Headache- This was really an all day thing. It started with a fogginess in the morning and grew to a full-on migraine by the evening. I drank tons of water, because everyone said it could be dehydration, but there was no getting through to it. I decided to avoid medication because my body just needed to rid itself of whatever it was painfully ridding itself of, and when I woke up on Thursday I was feeling light and sunshiny again.
  3. Itchiness- I don't know why this happens but I literally wanted to rub my body on sandpaper.
Like I said before, I had done my research and knew that such a sudden drastic change in diet would come with side effects, but I never really stopped to think about how closely my symptoms were to withdrawing off of other addictions. I'll withhold my opinion on the antibiotics and preservatives they are pumping into our foods, but I will say this has been an eye-opening 5 days for me.

Starting my Vegan Journey

"In light of my immediate physical benefits, my new diet felt pretty damn sensible once I started, so it kept surprising me that the majority of the world still regards veganism as some vaguely menacing fringe thing akin to Scientology or Communism."

That's it. The statement at the end of the sentence. Why are vegans seen as something to be feared or mocked?

When I embarked on my vegan journey (two days ago) the only people who were supportive were my mother, my husband (after he ensured I would still be cooking dinner for him) and the ladies at work doing it with me. Other than that I received many blank stares or shocked looks, sometimes I would even get a sarcastic "good luck".

First of all, when did we become a group of people who don't support bettering ones self? I am not forcing my lifestyle on you, and if you want to chomp on that burger I won't say anything to you- deal? Also, I am not out there advertising this journey- don't ask if you don't want to know. #endrant

So from now on I am not going to say the word vegan to too many people. When they ask why I eat like a rabbit I will respond with "plant based diet" or "herbivore" just to elude them. Think it will help?

In other more important news, I have been a vegan for a day and a half. Today was way harder than yesterday- I was tired in the morning and had a slight headache this afternoon- but when I woke up this morning I felt 'thinner' or less bloated really, but it was a good feeling on day two! More to come :)
